The Trip Report:Well, I've been tweaking the website, and wanted to verify the trip entry script still works. (It did not, I had to fix it on this entry). I've given away my car to some kid from Saskatchewan last Christmas, and have not bought a new one yet. I did not make it out skiing this winter... so I do not have a trail report to enter to test out my site.
I did however make it to the Calgary Zoo's Christmas lights display yesterday. So I thought I'd use that as a pretext to verify my script still works. It is not a trail report, and is off topic for the sight, but may be of interest to someone considering going.
A lot of work has gone into the display put on at the zoo every Christmas. (Boo at the zoo too, during Halloween). It shows well. Based on the displays, I'd say the theme is Christmas, Critters and Colour.
Unfortunately my camera battery did not like the cold, and my camera ran out of power after a dozen or so shots. What I have here is a sample of what you will see if you go. As with fire works the pictures rarely do justice to the displays.
In addition to the displays the zoo has a slide setup, some big balls for playing with, white foam building block for building walls/igloos, hey for throwing around. Stuff fun for young children. The ice carving with the chain saw demonstration was pretty cool.
However the animal displays are closed. Some may be open, we did not really check for them. The Cafeteria is open, as is the new plant conservatory. So you can get out of the cold and warm up. The Zoo also has large fire boxes going.
Below is the gallery of the pictures I did take. each is a link to a larger version of the picture. |
