Wooden 'washers'.

Wooden 'washers' which will screw into the bottom of the cockpit base, sandwiching the cloth in between. they fit in between the stanchions and stations as appropriate, and are traced out to match the cockpit base, and result in full area coverage between stanchions
They are vanished. Made from 1/4 marine plywood I had kicking around.
