Well I'm not sure what it is about me an my projects, but it seems like that I always make one big mistake right at the end. To impatient I guess.
This time it was putting the painters ring in... my mistake, well a combination of Ignorance and Stuborness. Why ignorance, well a painters ring is basiically a hole that goes through the hull, to tie ropes to. So you have to cut a hole in the kayak. I went and bought some dowel (which is drilled out, and run through the hole) I knew the diameter was bigger than any drill bit I had, so I grabed on to match... I bought a spade bit.
When drilling the holes, the bit goes in non pependicular to the hull wall, it twisted, and ripped into the hull big time.
The subborness became a factor when I figured I could get the other holes okay, by taking more care... two of them are really bad.
By the way, the type of drill bit you should use is a 'fostner bit', at least that is what I think you should use.
The other scrapes and rough work on the Fiberglass is invisible with
scraping, sanding, a coat of Eposy on the tape, and other FG edges, then
the normal sanding and varnish.
