Hiking_Grassi_Lakes_with_Kids.html: (6-Oct-2016)It was Ella and Mika's first hiking trip in the Rockies. Grassi Lakes Trail is located in Canmore, very easy to access. We summited the Point Lenana peak and accomplished the Peak Circuit path. It was an amazing experience.

Between 1912 and 1914, and impressive number and variety of engineering works of enormous scale were built high up on these steep walls. Engineers use conventional technologies in ingenious was to construct the railway through the rugged, Mountainous terrain, where workers faced the dangers posed by blasting and rock slides. The completion of this section of the railway helped provide a vital all-Canadian link between the West Coast and the southern interior of British Columbia" - Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada (as sign on the trail). This walk is a small section of this rail bed with the tracks removed. The landscape is recovering from the fires that burn in the area every few years. the old wooden trestles have been replaced. Hiking Coronet Creek at the end of Maligne Lake: (29-Dec-2017)Most of the Hike follows the Coronet creek, not quite from Magline Lake up through the tree line along its valley to the base of the falls from the upper glacier. Aprox 400-500 m gain (Estimate, verify on topo map). This is a maintained trail, but not super heavily used, and a bit of trail finding is required at points, although you would be hard pressed to get lost. Sea Kayak Maligne Lake : (1-Jan-2018)Summary: A fantastic 4 day trip, 3 days paddling sea kayaks up and down Maligne lake, and one day on a 6hr hike. A well maintained trail an hour or so SW of Calgary. We did not go the full loop.
